Raining brakes

Hi All,

This is one I have been plagued with pretty well from the first time I got the car on the road and was caught in the rain. Mainly on the motorway in the rain I loose the brakes. I have to trail my foot on the peddle about every 3 miles otherwise if I have to use them....there's nothing there.

Has anyone else had this issues?

I've changed the calipers

the disc's (about 5 times as they all seem to warp...or is this linkedhmm) and even running dimple and slotted discs in the vain hope of breaking the surface tension up...but it doesn't.

Removed the back stone guards

replaced the back stone guards

BUT I have always run the car on wires? I'm starting to believe its aerodynamics and the front discs are just getting to much spray

Anyhoo, what does the great unwashed think?

First of the unwashed....

It's not a problem I've encountered with either Phase 2 or Warwick, and I do drive in the rain!

The phase 2 had type A calipers, and stone guards, the Warwick has type B, and no guards.  Both had standard discs.

However both cars had green EBC pads and a servo.

thanks unwashed Frank!

I did have coloured pads at one point too but didn't really see the benefit as not that aggressive on brakes on the road and stopped doing track days etc.

I'm now running 16PB's which I think are the B type you referred to but had the same problems with the original A/boat style calipers.

Always thought of fitting a servo but the braking is more than adequate in the dry.

Not something Ive encountered in mine, though my driving through torrential rain experience is somewhat limited compared to yours. I removed the original inline valve to reduce the caliper pistons backing off too far, but do have a stonking Powerstop servo (not the repro) which is razor sharp.

If this was anyone but you Nigel......

Pad knock-off and warped discs would point me to axle flex or wheel bearings.  It's not that obvious is it?

Not something i have had either and I have done a lot of wet weather motorway driving recently. Same wheels, callipers and back plates as you Nigel but a servo and Mintex 1144 pads on a Ph2.
