Hello all! I'm the latest lucky (!?) chappy to get hold of a Peerless. I'm proud to have managed to twist Flash Frank's arm far enough for him to sell his beloved Ph2. The car now resides at my home, oop' north in the Lake District. The car's currently suffering for a dodgy misfire under load. I've replaced all the ignition bits: coil, condenser, rotor arm, dizzy cap, plugs, leads and coil, all to no avail. There's plenty of spark getting to the cylinders now, and there's plenty of fuel getting into the float chambers, so it can only really be something in front of that, can't it? I assume that the timing's fine, as Frank can't have been running the car like this for 7 years!
Anyway, I hope I'll be at home here with fellow nutters :)
I'm really unfamiliar with these SU carbs, but have you checked if there's oil in the dashpots? Hopefully someone who knows about these things will be along shortly to help you.
I've had some appalling quality parts as I restore 740EPP so even though you've got new ignition parts, are you sure they're good parts?
Welcome aboard the good ship P&WOR sorry I havent replied to your emails as I've been away and refuse to access them whilst trying to have a break! Saying that the phones on re-divert to the mobile and that's always on what am I doing! Miss fire (my I've had some wild nights with her!) well done for transplanting all electrics, good move. Have you checked choke movement? The choke normally only operates on the front carb due to the upper peddle box being in the way. But are both jets at the bottom of the carbs free to move and more importantly retreat back into the carbs to give the correct mixture? I know you've changed everything but rotor arms are especially poor quality at the moment. I would only buy new from Martin @ distributor doctor (mention my name and get a rise in price) points are critical as you will probably know and used ones can have a pin point tip due to transfer of material from one side to the other. When I used to replace mine (I use lumintion now as I hate and loath all the years I've had with points) I took the dissie out to set them properly, extreme but worth it! Hows the air filters, take them off and test run, if the faults on induction side of things then this should intensify the problem? just some ideas
