Repairs to body work

Please can I have some ideas on how mend a small but critical area of body work on my Warwick. I have had some problems with my wipers. I have now found the main problem that caused the other faults. The shaped area on the schuttle where the wiper drive exits the body (groved drive you put the wiper arm on) has broken up. What materilal can I use to reform this area. In simple terms what type of filler type product can i use and adears to the existing body work. How will I colour it. I think I will set a stainless steel washer into to the area end face to   make a better surface to tighten the securing nut to.

I look forward to your knowledge.  Duncan

Hi Duncan,

sounds like you have already got the right idea. a good support around the hole will help. as for colour i would think your car has been spray painted so you could get a match from your local paint supplier. I have a local guy who can even put it in an "arsarol" can!

You'll get a much stronger repair if you abandon the little shaped lumps and make the panel flat.  You can then use chrome plated angled collars on the wiper shafts to get the wipers at the correct angle to the screen.  These usually come with an oval rubber gasket so there's a chance of making the assembly watertight as well.

thanks for that. Where might I get these collars from or what cars would have had them.
