Bonnet locks

Does anyone have any idea what the original P1 bonnet locks came off? I did have mine but they seem to have disappeared into a black hole. I bought a replacement pair from Holden but the part that turns under the scuttle  is too short to engage with it. I can also see from the original mounting holes that the new ones are far smaller that the originals.

Failing that, does anyone have any idea where I might buy some roughly the same size?

Hi Mike,

I've used something along these lines...I think I got them from Albert Jaggers on the back of an order fro a client!

Work really well. I have the square fitting with no centre point sticking up and use a 1/4" socket drive with a bespoke design fitting (Split pin cut off and araldite'd into the head!) and keep it on my key ring...JD

Nigel

I'm still having difficulty finding a budget lock to match the originals and am now looking at the quarter turn locks you mentioned above.

Do you recall which one you used and did you use the same hole that the original T key went through?

These are very similar to the ones I already bought but the problem with them is that the latch, when turned to lock, isn't long enough to catch under the scuttle. Which is weird as I'm using the same holes in the bonnet that were used originally. Having said that, original bonnet plus new shell. Could that be an issue??

Did you refit the original corner brackets to the shell or make new ones? Odd they cant reach the bracket.

Corner brackets? That might explain a lot. I really don't recall any corner brackets. Mind you, if you saw the state of the original shell, you might not be surprised.

Any pictures, Gary?

Please say yes!

That explains a lot! Thanks so much Gary.

I see a bit of fabrication in the near future.

I presume they're glassed in?

No problem. Theyre held by countersunk screwed fixings into the gutter, so paint over the heads to seal them.

Great. Thank you again. Another little job for the paint guy when the car goes back to him for final detailing when everything is done.
