Stuart has been advised againsed galvanising (bugger !) so the talk is now blasting and painting, but I guess he will supply them raw if people want to do their own thing....
Nigel tell us all about North Sea oil rig legs.......
I was strongly advised not to get my TR chassis galvanised when I rebuilt it - but it's all in the terminology. You can get things like chassis hot zinc sprayed which has pretty much the same result, without imparting so much heat which can cause distortion. Had the TR chassis hot zinc sprayed in 1999 and can't see even surface rust where the paint has been chipped off yet, so I'd recommend it. Stuart may be able to confirm whether this is OK for our type spaceframes.
Yea I had mine hot zinc coated back in uuur some time mid 1990's
Still can’t see any signs of rust. I would suggest talking to the zinc people about what to put on, they sprayed mine with an etch primer and then I coated it up from there.
For further reference the zinc people are a small tribe found in the industrial areas of most major cities. They have short legs and long arms, they can be easily recognized by the scuff marks on there knuckles.
