Webasto sunroof

Hi, just wondered if anyone have fitted a Webasto folding sunroof in their car. I'm planning on doing so and have come across a company in London that makes the old type as a DIY kit. They are quite expensive, between £750-1000, and I'm wondering if there are any other cars that used the same type as the Peerless. Any suggestions?

If you want to make the planet a nicer place then I'm sure a MGBGT one can be made to fit.  However a Peerless roof is a pretty fragile structure even before you start cutting holes in it.

Alternatively you could save lots of money and effort and purchase a Peerless sweat shirt.

Hi Joachim,

A good friend of the P&W reg has a Webasto sun roof fitted to his car. He seems to use it allot with out any adverse effects.

I would agree that a Peerless roof is a fragile thing; if you have removed the glass then you will know what I mean.

I have fitted them before to lesser cars and thoroughly enjoyed them as they are by fare the best all round extra to a car.

I did intend to fit one to my car and collected parts from breakers over the years but when it came to it I couldn’t bring myself to having a great big black patch on an old English white roof. The lines of a phase1/2 roof are just too sweet to mess with. Saying that they did mess with it and we got the Warrick

I kept thinking it would look like someone had laid out a picnic blanket on the roof; all it needed was a hamper and sandwiches!

I do know from experience that they have usually got a steel frame fitted under the skin to support the roof. All this can be made but really if you get to this stage Joachim you really have got to much time on your hands...get the bloody thing on the road first

My Warwick #23 came with a Webstro Sun roof installed. It has a wooden frame that surrounds the opening and supports the roof and supplies the track for sliding the roof. I had it recovered and works well. I race my Warwick and at 6000RPM in 4th OD, the top does balloon up. They say it looks odd on the track.
It is a lot of fun to drive. Handles better than my TR3A.

Hi Guys

Well i did wonder what id done to me little Peerless ,But it only took a few mins with the jig saw and there was a big hole!!!!!

The mgb roof im using has a metal frame that bolts both sides of the remaining roof and seems to be very strong.Remind me i said that if it all goes tits up!

Progress is still slow but may be Malvern next year as long as theres no rain.
