I have been reading a tread on the TR Register Forum about TR values being boyant and the register is updating the suggested values for the TR Register Insurance scheme.
The guide for our cars is currently
Complete - no MOT: £1500 - £3500 Complete with MOT: £3500 - £6000 Good: £6000 - £7000
There are no prices for excellent or concours cars.
Classics Monthly suggests that cars are valued at C1 £10,000, C2 £6200, and C3 £2000.
What is the general view on these values, are they about right and inline with the selling prices for cars?
I appreciate that these are just guide prices but they are all I have to help me ask for a sensible agreed valuation on the insurance.
This question has popped up a lot recently and so I have given it some thought. Looking at the conditions copy in the back of Classics Monthly I would agree with their assessment. I am seeing higher prices for these cars in the states and Europe but there are more people investing out there than in here! The market is indeed buoyant at the moment but that could all change, but for now at least these figures are I think realistic.
I still think it is odd that Towergate do not give a value for Excellent or Concours cars. Whilst we do not have a large concours culture in the club, there are certainly some excellent cars.
Yes, there are several exceptional cars in the club.
However I would suggest that almost all of the cars have been modified in some details, and could probably not be described as candidates for concours in the same way that regular TR's are.
e.g.. How many of us have the original jacking points in the floor, or an original radiator? How's about a full complement of GRP bumpers or a correct boot lock? Hardly anybody has badges. We struggle to agree about what "original" is, and there are no written records.
Finally, I haven't seen anyone polishing the inside of their exhaust pipe yet, but FJ may yet surprise us!
I suspect that Towergate's estimate isn't far out.
