Do I have OVERDRIVE??? HELP Please !!

Hello everyone, Need a bit of help here.
While exercisng the Peerless the other day, I shifted into 3rd and a second or so later it upshifted again AUTOMATICALLY !
Did the same thing in 4th. What the @#@# is going on here.

Never did this before.

Now I know some cars had the overdrive .....,but is it on 3rd AND 4th ???? And how does it work?
Maybe I activated it some how.......????

Anyway... I know one of you more knowledgable chaps out there will know if my car ihas overdrive, a problem or is simply POSSESSED.

Thanks ahead of time for any and all help

Russell

When you say shifted....when you are changing into third did it then "change note" and the revs drop another 500 or so. If yes then you have overdrive smile.gifand it's not operating properly.cry.gif

You should have a switch on the dash board, usually on the outer edge of the pod or outer dash frame....people tended to move them around quite allot. Anywho if you find a switch that you dont know what it does (good job your not Mr Bush) switch it on!!.

To test weather you have overdrive.
Sit in your car in a very quiet place so you can hear the slightest noise.
Turn on your ignition but dont start the engine.smile.gif
Put the car into 4th gear.
Flick the "switch of the unknown" on.
If you hear down in the transmission tunnel near your lower thigh a click or clunk then you have overdrive.
Moving on.....
Try putting the car in 3rd and do the same
Then second...yes second because when they left the factory with this very useful option it was set up on 2nd 3rd and 4th.
Switch off.hmm.gif
So then you have found itbut its faulty or intermittentusually its the solenoid switch fitted to the side of the overdrive unit that is playing up/burnt out/out of adjustment/f%*+£d.furious.gif
If so read a lot of books smile.gifor take to a specialist.cry.gif

If you dont get a click or a clunk then that doesnt mean you havent got an overdrive...it might just be faulty.cry.gif
SO next you jack the car up or go to your local tyre shop and CAREFULLY drive it up on their ramp...for beer tokens..and look underneath.
Follow the prop shaft from the diff at the back towards the gearbox.
If it meets a large aluminium casting with a large brass nut in the centre of the bottom face about a one and half foot from the back of the engine then you have overdrive.smile.gif
if you follow it along and you find a tapered aluminium casting that gets bigger as you get towards the gearbox then that is a standard tail housing, cry.gif which you remove to fit an overdrive.smile.gif......but it's not that easycry.gif...well it wouldnt be would it!!
so read even more books smile.gifor take to a specialist.cry.gifcry.gif

Anywho hope that has helped.weirdface.gif
