How knows is the nut on the axel hub shaft on driverside (RHD) anticlockwise ? if yes can anybody help me with supplier information or sample for reproduction that hub.
Hello perhaps my question was not clear, my wheel comes off after approx. 400miles I think I´ve got the wrong shaft in because the shaft nut are clockwise on the right side.
I have just sorted out two shafts that I split from a de dion tube myself so I know they are a matching pair and they are both right-handed thread.
I also had no problems replacing the old nuts on my present car.
Are you loosing the complete wheel with the brake drum or just the wheel?
If it's just the wheel then you have the bolt-on splines the wrong way round. They are handed two left and two right.
It does also seem strange that you have just experienced this problem; I thought the car had been on the road some time.
There are a lot of theories to what torque the shafts should be set at, I for one have had my problems after rebuilding mine and presently I have one a little to loose but after having one actually lock whilst overtaking at 80 mph because it was too tight!
Tks for your feedback, sure my car is on the road but always the big center nut comes off after different miles would say 400till 1000miles. I think I got the wrong shaft in my car because the nut open itself and damage the safety spilt. Thinking to buy a TR4 IRS shaft and modify to the Peerless typ do you know from which typ of car comes the shaft originaly ?
When I half stripped my TR4 rear end I'm sure the end of the shaft looked just like ours.
I would of thought that when the company used the same girling brakes, drums, retaining housing for the outer bearing, brake back plate, hub assembly etc they would of used the end of a shaft from Standard Triumph. Although saying that they were using TR3 bits....so perhaps we need to look at a 3 as well.
We must talk to an owner or supplier and get some measurments.
Called a local TR expert and he told me both shaft nuts must be clockwise, but he gave me advise that the center nut should fixed very tight torque140-160nm, can you confirm !
