RE: Where do I start

Hello Kim,

Not sure why your photos appear upside down, but likely something to do with formatting.

Jon, can you offer any advice on this?

Many thanks,

Gary

The door seal. Metal inner keeps it rigid.

I think Nigel means the little switch (leaver?) to the left of the speedo, Gary.

Or am I missing the joke?

Ah, you mean where the speedo needle visually connects with the toggle switch? Gotcha.

That's the one I think. Looks like a right angled thing but I guess Nigel saw the speedo needle as part of it.

A milestone.

Big question

Do we restore back to the original phase one front or do we keep the later fitted phase two ?

It could just be the camera angle, but it looks like the shell is pretty unhappy with the front end it has now.

Unwinding any twist in either chassis or body might mean a new front is a better solution, and any unresolved tension will mean cracking later.

How do I know this?

Ouch, were the icy conditions the reason for this damage?

Storing the body on a support frame during the restoration might be a good idea.

ooooah I've seen worse (ask me, go on, ask me doh) but I'm sure it will pull straight with a bit of cutting/relieving and IMHO definitely go for phase 1 on the nose. If you're going to sink some money into the restoration its best to make it resemble the correct marque for its age/commission number.

Saying that you wouldn't be drummed out the club if you stayed with the phase 2 look.

Do you still have the original P grill hanging up or did that go with the original nose into the scrap? If you like the P on the front then this was only a phase 1 option ....food for thought blankstare

My father-in-law looks like he fitted the spot lights to replace the lost P after the accident.

I agree on going back to the original but a big debate with my wife on her wanting to keep the phase two front

Me to! It would be fascinating to read those early newsletters. Could they be scanned and added to the website?

The old register news letters do look to be in good condition Kim and do make great reading. We have a lot of these(may not be a complete set) in the archive and anyone with the time to scan them all only has to jump in and have a go......

Gary is cracking on at quite a pace. Decision on the front made and time to think about the engine
