Door latch Nut/Bolt sizes

As per the title, can anyone advise the size and type of the screws/nuts/bolts used to secure the latch plate to the door (specifically the one that goes through the spur wheel) and the catches to the B post.

I think the originals were BA screws Mike.  If you really want originality, you can still get these over the internet from Namrick.

However there is enough meat in the fitting to open it up to take a stainless metric screw.

Nobody is going to notice, just use a bit of threadlock or nylon nuts to stop them coming loose.

Thanks Frank. Having had another look today, I believe the ones holding the toothed catch (the bit the spur wheel engages with) are 1/4 UNF. Easy to get. The others all appear to be 3/16. It's the one going through the spur wheel that's proving elusive. I can't find a 3/16th countersunk with a part unthreaded shank for the spur wheel to run on. Obviously, I could use a fully threaded 3/16 countersunk but I'd worry about the spur wheel running on the thread.

Any ideas where I could source them? Not Namrick. I've tried.

I saw thread Mike and thought I'd ask my mate Richard his thoughts as fasteners in the classic car industry is his working world.

He says there won't be any of these on the open market as this type of fixing will always have the tread all the way up to the head (as mentioned) and not case hardened. He thinks, back in the day, Wilmot Breeden (who I think made these latches but could be wrong) will have had them made specially for this application....and certainly not viable to have them made now.

Could this fixing be sleeved and the spur wheel drilled out slightly?

I'm open to ideas on how we, as a club, could do something for the "good of all" so if anyone comes up with a viable solution let me know and I will try and help in funding extras to be made/fabricated/facsimiles etc

screw-csk.pngAn internet search seems to show similar screws appear to be available.

Thank you, Ken. I've ordered 5 to see how they suit.

Well, that turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Screws arrived but are fully threaded. I'll try calling the supplier to see if a) they've sent the wrong item or b) they have something suitable but probably won't get hold of them until the New Year.
