Location of earth point

Can anyone advise where the battery to earth (+ve, originally) connected to the chassis? I'm keeping the battery in the original position in the boot but changing to -ve earth. Did the original earth connect somewhere at the rear of the chassis?

And on the same subject, what route did the original -ve feed to the starter take?

Originally just a welded in thread at the bottom of the diagonal tube coming down from the top of the back of the boot next to the boot opening on the LH side for RHD cars.

While youre welding that in, also consider the same on both sides but smaller for the rear electrics.

Thanks, Gary. Being as that area had rusted away, it's not surprising I couldn't find it.

Re the earth for the rear, my new loom, made up specifically for my needs, has earth returns built into it all going to common earthing points at the front of the car but good tip anyway.

In what location should the battery be on a Phase 2?

On my car it's in the engine bay, but that doesn't appear to be original?

No, in the engine bay, in the tray at the top left of the picture, where the terminals are.

Beware though, the clearance between the tray and the body above is tight, so a big (period correct rubber case) battery won't fit.

In my Phase 2, the latest owner swapped the battery location with the heater box, which gives a bit more room, and doesn't look too bad.

I'll see if I can find a picture.

See you at Malvern.

Here are a few pictures, I had the engine restored as it was before in the original Peerless Phase 1. Battery is on the right in front.
greeting. Eric

Thanks,

Good to know it should be in front on a Ph2.

Very nice and clean engine bay Eric, compliments!

Although the battery is much more accessible in the engine bay, on my Ph1 i think i will keep it in the back.
