I was out walking the other day and couldnt believe my eyes when I caught sight of...
Does anyone know what happened to the second car? I seem to recall they were both driven back to the Uk. Did the second car have the roof ripped off or did I just imagine it? I thought I once saw an advert in Motorsport referring to the second car but I could be wrong. Any old wives tales would be much appreciated.
Car no63 the reserve car. As it goes and as told by Fred Nicklin the mechanic. It was decapitated by a level crossing on the way back in France. And driven back to Slough in that state.
I have an advert by Bernard Rogers developments that could be read as selling that car. But is not clear.
Im assuming thats from the CD Jon produced after interviewing Fred, must have been where I heard it. Thanks for confirming. Hope the weather was better than on race day otherwise theyd have been thoroughly soaked. What a great photo Erik where is it from? From the right angle the Peerless has always looked stunning. It might just be just me but Ive always liked the large rear wing and the way it sweeps down to the rear wheel.
I think I may have found something in a old newsletter. There is a paragraph referring to a Chris Henderson who replaced the original engine with a TR4 unit. He planned to race the car at Ingliston (Edinburgh). Then its mentioned that he was told his car was the second Le Mans car. Theres no registration or chassis number listed. Its a few decades ago but I wonder if Nigel has heard of Chris Henderson presumably from the Edinburgh area?
Its a Newsletter dated September/December 1977. Unfortunately Chris Henderson isnt on the list of members included in the same Newsletter. See attachment
