Lets play a game to alleviate lockdown boredom

I had an interesting and somewhat amusing chat with my local (railway) station master just recently. Having turned up late in the evening at this rather small station, I parked beside a very nice Bentley Continental GT which I had regularly seen in the same place. I (wrongly) assumed it belonged to the owner of the posh hotel that is adjacent to the station.

I got a bit of a surprise when the station master (the only person working that evening) knocked on my car window to advise that if I was waiting for the Inverness train, it was running an hour and a half late. I jokingly said to him 'i thought you were coming to drive off in the Bentley'. To my surprise, he said 'I am, I'm off home now. I said 'nice car' whilst at the same time wondering just how much do small rural station masters get paid. 'Yes' he said, 'but not as nice as the Aston DB9 I had before'. Thinking he must be a bit of a petrol head, we started chatting cars and he further revealed his wife drives a Skyline GTR.

At this point, I showed him a pic of my Peerless thinking he might be interested. His response wasn't quite what I expected.

Nice car' he said.

'What is it?'

'A Ford Cortina?'

Well, obviously NOT a petrol head, after all.

Anyway, this brings me to the game.

What is the most outlandish vehicle your Peerless has been mistaken for?

Aside from the faintly ridiculous guess by the abovementioned, even classic enthusiasts struggle to put the correct name to the car on first sight and I've had guesses from unspecified Aston Martins (the most common guess) and a Bristol. AC has been mentioned too along with the ever popular 'is it a kit car?'.

Can anyone do any better?

good one Mike!

I frequently get "is it a Volvo that the Saint drove mate" Which I guess due to it being white "might" be why (front perhaps, if you squint/stand on one leg etc)

I'll happily take Aston or AC....but of course we all know "we" are a lot rarer wink

A good friend of mine had a DB9 and then later (after 32,000 mile in 18 months!) traded it in for a Bentley Continental Convertible. He said the DB raised smiles and waves where ever he went, the Bentley raised abuse/spitting and cans thrown at him!

He used to live in "footballer belt" down south and could only think this had something to do with it! He's a great petrol head and would always let me drive his latest (he's now got a 3.2ltr Maserati) the DB9 was fantastic (IMHO)

and the Bentley..... just wasn't. We got out of the Bentley and I tossed him the keys to the Peerless and we jumped in, when we got to a T junction he s**t himself trying to stop biggrin Yep, I said, no ceramic brakes here my friend.....

I can 'get' the Volvo 1800S (just).

I wonder what out Colonial cousins get?

I'm mostly a Bristol, or sometimes an AC.  I'm slowly getting over the "kitcar" label.

Fortunately Felixstowe is only a little place, and folk recognise the car (and me) more often these days.

Moral of the story - Promote you car - Drive it!

my late father in law said to me once "I came out of Morrison's the other day and you never guess what I saw" I said, "no, what". He said " a Peerless!" "Really" I said "what colour was it as I know most of them on the road"

"oh, it was white"...."ooookay, don't know that one then"....aaaar, hold on "did it have blue stripes"...."YES" disbelief (he was serious)

On the off chance that you are a devotee of attempting mixed drinks then, at that point bars are the best spot for you to be most exclusive high end bars. There are a huge number of places everywhere on the world, with their own strengths. A portion of these are top of the line bars serving drinks like a taste from paradise.

I rather hope not!

I've bought advance tickets for Malvern, and booked the caravan into Hadley Swan site.

Have you managed to avoid "volunteering" this year?

Weekend ticket bought for Malvern. Here is hoping FreeDumb Day in the UK doesnt unleash the next wave and scupper the event.

Looking forward to seeing you all from a very sociable distance.

Getting back to the original subject, the guy that transported my Peerless to the paint shop put up a pic of the car on his facebook page (carpull car transportation service) with an invitation to 'guess the classic car'. Some interesting guesses including, Nigel, a Volvo P1800. First time for that one. Someone actually got Peerless.
