Peerless door waist seals and profiles

First of all i don't know if these are called waist seals on the Peerless, but on other cars they are.

I mean the alloy strip that is screwed to the top of the door skin, and holds a thin strip of rubber.

On my car these are badly damaged by someone putting self tapping screws through for holding the window frame in place.

Now i am planning to make these alloy profiles myself, because i can also use a new set for the Ph1.

Therefore i have to make some tooling, but if that is done i can easily make some more.

Price wise these shouldn't cost much as i am making the tooling myself and the material cost are very low.

Postage cost i don't know.

Question is, are there other P&W owners that could use a set?

Hi Ever resourceful Erik!

Sadly, like most of the things that came with BP, if they were longer than the card board box he had for storage then they were folded in half (or thirdsdisbelief) to fitno

So yes, I will have a pair please and let me know finished costs and postage. I'm not desperate to obtain and fit as I have a modern equivalent fitted (all rubber, no ali) and works well but "one day"

I really should put the car back to original confuse so you could hand deliver them when you come over for the IWE biggrin

A commendable move Eric!I

I expect that many of those that you sell will never be fitted to a door, and will live for ever in a spares box.

I managed to restore mine, Woolies sell suitable rubber strip, but this doesn't last well, it is already perished.

If you can manage to source something that lasts better it would be most welcome.

I too managed to restore mine and with the rubber from Woolies. Bit disappointed to hear it doesn't last, though. But then, what does, these days as far as remanufactured parts for classics are concerned.

I could well be interested in a set, Erik if, as Frank suggests, they're likely to last longer.

Put me up for a set Eric! I will start the restoration of my Phase II quite soon. I have gathered most of the needed, hard to find, parts but I could do with new and better alloy strips/seals.

Well, so far i have sourced a nice piece of 0,8mm aluminium sheet.

Made a small test tool to get a bit of feel if this could work, tested with 1mm aluminium and it worked quite well.

Tonight i'm going to collect a bead roller which i'm going to use making the profiles.

I need to make a pair of specific rollers for this then.

Tooling is now ready, however it still needs some dimensional tweaks.

I need to heaten the alloy sheet to make it softer, otherwise cracks appear in the profile.
Also the rolls and alloy sheet need to be greased to allow the alloy to slide into the forming groove.

I first tried to form the profile in only one pass, but that is too much deformation at once.
The final picture shows the result of two passes through the rolls.

I'm getting close.

If all goes well, i have enough base material to make 12 sets of these.
