RE: Reversing light switch alternatives and interior light.

That's the whole point of this wonderful forum, unlike Facebook you can easily find stuff and all the people on here have been through most of it before...and can feel your pain!

I have to talk to Coxy who built my last gearbox (and the other in the past too) and see what he says...He might do a sensible exchange system for you? as I would assume the position of the switch is critical if it has to meet a notch in the shaft??

let me know

I would imagine so, Nigel. In the same way that the o/d isolator switches need positioned/shimmed. My understanding is that drilling and tapping through the centre of the boss should do the job but, obviously having the top cover off would help provide a visual guide for location.

Coxy??

Not familiar with the name but if there is a chance of an exchange, I'm interested. Not in a major rush, Nigel but would appreciate the input and experience of someone well versed in the technicalities of these boxes.

Hi Mike,

Bit of background here before you get your answer!

"Coxy" is Peter Cox of Cox & Buckles fame. This was one of the first TR parts suppliers to strike up in the 70's (in the midlands) when everyone with a TR needed new/used spares.

They sold out to MOSS and Pete carried on with MOSS as R&D for some years. Pete has also worked from home for some years building Boxes and overdrives and he's done at least 3 for me over the years.

His son, Tom has now dragged him kickin & screamin into an industrial unit that he has taken on and they call themselves Peter Cox Sports Cars. I have an engine in with them at the moment being machined along with two heads (well they're better than one I'm told!) for testing. The heads are done out of house by Pete Burgess but I went though Pete C as they have a very long history together and are constantly shipping parts to one another.

Back to the thread. I spoke to Tom on your behalf today and he said they can either build you one and ship or do an exchange.

I said you would probably do an exchange as you have a perfectly serviceable cover to start with. He said they could machine the switch aperture for you for £45. Then there would be your postage etc both ways.

Is this of any help? If so I will pass his contact details on and you can deal direct.......and I'll bank my beer commission for when we meetwink

Your beer commission is running at a tanker full by now, Nigel.

That sounds very attractive. If you could PM the details, I'll give him a call and make the necessary arrangements.

I'm indebted to you once again.

On another matter, he may well be worth chatting to about the spare head off my original engine. I keep meaning to do something with it aside from tripping over it in my workshop constantly.

Yea that's why I sent him two heads whilst I was at it, if this "all singin and dancin" head is to much for the road I have a rebuilt spare on the shelf.

He's more than happy to have his details on here as its all potential work.

Ask for Tom or Pete and mention your Beloved Leader wink

I better start saving. You won't ever have to put your hand in your pocket at the first NYB I make it to.
