Passenger door (non-locking handle)

Not that I'm at this stage yet but just out of curiosity, how does the door with the non-locking handle work? That is, how do you lock a door without a lock?

I can see from the drivers side that the lock barrel prevents the button from being pushed in hence the door is locked. Does the passenger door actually lock and, if so, how?

From the inside of the car.....I

Pulling the door lock handle opens the door.

Pushing the door lock handle forward moves a tag on the link bar across the lock and prevents the outside handle opening the door.  This is usually used to lock the passenger door.

The drivers door is usually locked by a key from outside.

BUT!  Peerless didn't always remove the tag on drivers doors, which is how you lock yourself out.
