Route of battery cables rear to front.

Given that my harness and associated cables came neatly piled up between the front seats, I'm at a bit of a loss to figure out the route the battery cables ran from the rear of the car to the front. There was a very long neg lead which leaves me to believe that nobody in the past moved the battery from the boot to the engine compartment.

I know that the battery should sit in the nearside rear quarter and that there is a large hole in the rear inner wing quarter panel through which I guess that the lead to the engine ran. Presumably it then went up over the rear nearside wheel arch, back into the sill (beside the tank?) and thence into the engine bay. But what route did it take to get to the other side of the engine bay where the starter motor is and control box used to sit?

I'd also be interested to discover where the battery originally earthed to. Needless to say, I'm changing polarity but would like to discover where to strap the -ve earth to.
