Can anyone advise on the correct layout for the wiring harness from front to rear of the P1 cars? I'm assuming it would run up the drivers sill (R/H). If this is the case, does the wiring for the L/H fuel tank and fuel pumps run across the chassis from the R/H side or up the L/H sill?
how longs a piece of wire....literally, I seem to remember it was governed by the length of the wiring in the new wiring loom. I did run on the original loom for about 10 years but that really was a lot of sleeps ago and cant remember.
Thanks, Nigel. To me, it would seem logical that the loom would run up the driver side sill (in with the petrol tank) being as most of the electrics are on that side of the car (at least, in the UK). Particularly so as the rear wiring all comes off the the one tail rather than being split in two, one for each side, were the loom to run up the middle of the car.
If you want to stick with the original type harness, then yes, it runs down the RHS sill, across the wheel arch and into the the boot.
That'll mean that you are happy with inadequate earth returns, a single fuse, dynamo, and Lucas switchgear reliability. And all of the rear lights earth to the right hand fuel tank.
If you want an alternator, high level brake light, electric washers, reliable stabilised instruments, radiator fan, electric washers, halogen head and fog lights then it's time to get serious about making your own. While you're at it you can add proper fusing and modern plug in relays for the high current circuits.
Already done that, Frank. Got a new loom made to suite -ve earth, alternator, fogs, spots, hazards, HFS, HRS, rad fan, old uncle Tom Cobley & all. Relays where appropriate and a proper fuse box. I really just wanted to know what route the harness took to the rear. I kind of assumed it ran down the RH sill.
