Phase 2 nose section to chassis fixing?

Need a bit of advise please.

Working on the front of the car now to sort a rotten front chassis member and a completely loose front nose section.

I can lift the complete nose section an inch from the chassis as is it in no way connected/mounted to the chassis.

It's only partially supported by the inner wings resting on the sloped tubes in front of the turrets.

How is this supposed to be mounted to the chassis?

Looking from beneath I think there used to be a metal plate bolted to the chassis member and body? (blue square)

In the red circle there's a hole that looks factory to me.

In the green rectangle is a crappy repair of the chassis member.

I have removed the repair and the rest of the chassis member as i'm going to replace this completely.

All help is highly appreciated!

Hi Eric: Yes , there ought to be a plate here to mount the body to the front crossmember.

Ideally it needs to be a bit wider than your blue square, and finish further back to stop air spilling past the bottom of the radiator.

If the front of the body is loose, be careful not to crack the GRP at the base of the windscreen pillars.

Before you fix it down, try to line up the front wings with the rest of the car, if they are out of line when the under-skirt is in line with the chassis you may have problems elsewhere. If the headlights are the same height, and the doors line up as well, you have won the lottery!

Thanks for the info Frank!

Good point on the alignment of the nose, headlights and doors.

If i finish welding in the new front crossmember i will put it back on the floor and start measuring.

Well Frank, in my memory your chassis was in better than in the picture.

It was really missing a lot of it.

On a scale from 1 to 10 i'd say this was a 4, and luckily mine is a solid 8 i think.

For checking the cracks on the turrets i first have to remove lots and lots of greasy build up.

But you are right, i'll carefully check the whole of it.

After i have repaired the nose section and some other grp damage i think its body off time.

There are some tubes to replace at the rear of the chassis which i simply cannot get to with the body on.
