Handbrake

Help!!
For the life of me I can't figure this handbrake out.
I have a cable with cover which goes from the left wheel cylinder to the right one.
Cover stops bolt to the DeDion tube each side, but the cable turns in a u shape, then has a frayed end about 6" from the right wheel cylinder.
I also have a pair of cable cover ends bolted to a bracket under the frame tube just to the right of the differential carrier frame front mount.
How does the handbrake assembly attach to the frame?
I don't have any holes in the frame for it.
Any pictures out there?
Thanks

Rich,

On my Peerless and on the Warwick the brake cables run in parallel from the front of the car to the back.   On the Peerless they are joined by an adjustment block under the hand brake cable.  Nothing runs from the left brake to the right.

Not sure if this cell phone picture is clear enough to help you.  There are a pairs of welded tabs on the frame for the cable blocks to bolt into, plus a pair in the De Dion tube. The under car blocks are located on the same frame rail where fuel pumps attach, yet on the opposite side.

My cables were shot, so I fabricated them from a pair of MGB cables.  If you need better photos, I'll be able to shoot them tonight.

Perfect. Thank you.
I see how it works.
I think someone in the last century ran it across to keep the broken cable from dragging on the ground.
My lever mount is cut off the frame but I can fab another.
Did the MGB cable length match up or did you have to cut them to length?

Rich,

The MGB cables were long enough so I could trim them to fit.  If I recall correctly, I cut both the sheeth and the cable at the brake end.  I then swedged on a new stop.  Not too hard with a press and die.   If you are uncomfortable pressing on the stop, you can always take the cables to a boat shop and ask them to do it for you.

Not sure if the point of contact that Nigel referred to is still viable.  I tried that path initially.   I'll look for the paperwork for the MGB cables as there are several models and only one was long enough.    If you bought parts from Moss then you know that they usually don't publish sizing info, but in this case they posted this table as there are so many cable possibilities.  You may be able to figure it out before I find the paperwork.

Hi Folks,

I have one spare set of Peerless handbrake cables left.  From all the previous chat, I don't think they will be useful for a Warwick, but we've used them on Ali's car and the other sets have made their way onto various other Peerlesses too, so I can guarantee that they fit and work.  There's a natty grease nipple about half way along the sleeve too, so keeping them in good shape shouldn't be hard.

The cost, shipped within UK, is £75 for the pair, or £65 if you happen to live close enough to collect (bank transfer or cheque preferred).  This is what they cost me about 9 years ago, which is a good long time for a price freeze!!

Let me know if anyone needs them,

Kind regards,

Nick

Handbrake Cable Update:

Last spare pair now sold - but I still have the pair I'm keeping for Ali's purple peril tucked away so could provide measurements or a template if anyone needs it.

Best wishes,

Nick
