Steering wheels & fittings

Someone, sometime asked me if we had a source for steering wheel boss' and the special little bolts that fix the wheel to it.

Well I have a prototype boss here beautifully machined from a solid billet of Aluminum. It will be drilled for the little grub screws that hold the horn/trafficators central.

Comes with the outer fixing ring, bolts to fit the wheel and the large, black coated adjustable nut.

There is a lot of work in re-manufacturing the steel, centrally splined fitting inside the boss.

what I need to know firstly is, how many people are interested in these as this will affect the overall price.

Also, does anyone need a steering wheel. These could be reproduced if I managed to raise enough interest.

Hi, I have a Jensen 541 that uses the same Bluemels adjustable nut. I just wanted to check that you were buying this "off the shelf" as it is readily available from some Jaguar specialists at a reasonable price, and there is no need to have this part specially machined like the boss!

Hi VFk,

thanks for adding to the thread. I have had a look on S&G Barrett site and cant find anything that looks like "our nut"

could you back this info up with....more info. Like where can you obtain them/image/dimensions etc??

Assuming it is the same nut internally, it is available from David Manners as "STRNGWHEEL LOCKNUT XK120" , part number C3721/1 ( a pattern part).  Mine was almost identical to the original apart from the Bluemels stamped writing not being embossed in the black coating. (& not being mangled by a pipe wrench!).

There's also a circlip, costing pennies, to stop it sliding off the shaft: C1036.

Yeah it's quite embarrassing when you haven't had time to fit the circlip...

I don't want to go into it.
