Package Shelf material?

We're starting the interior restoration of #00123 to be close to original and need information on what material to use on the package shelf behind the rear seats.  The upholstery shop wants to use the black material also used over the dashboard, I seem to remember it was the same grey vinyl used on other interior surfaces, but the Kasterner & Partners' car shows carpet.  Anyone out there know what was originally used?  Spring weather in Texas would be perfect for getting #123  back on the road after almost 40 years.

As you surmise, I believe the correct material is the grey vynide.  It is (of course!) about the only piece of original trim I'm missing on my restoration project.  I have a fairly comprehensive set of photographs of all the other pieces of interior trim from my car which I'll happily supply should you require them.  My car is Chassis 94 - so fairly close to yours.

I did mine in grey purely because the rear screen area is like a greenhouse when the sun comes out......and in Texas it really does come out!

Package shelf material
Mine is a black material, probably original as this car went into a barn in 1972 and came out last year.
I will be doing it in the lighter vinyl also because we live in Phoenix, Arizona.. "The devil's frying pan"

I do wish our colonial cousins would stop telling us how hot it can be, particularly as most of the UK is under 3 feet of water!!

Not that I'm bitter!

Replies were much appreciated.  I think I'll go with the grey vynide as it seems the most practical for this climate.  I have most of the old carpet and vynide pieces which we're using for patterns to cut the new and also plenty of pictures of original interiors (except package shelf) along with a sketchy memory of what it looked like in the 1960s.  Good to know there are detailed pics available should I get stuck.   About the climate - we're in a drought here in central Texas so sure wish our island cousins would share some of that water they're covered in.

Fatbird,

Art (my son) and I will eventually be getting to the interior of #92. Along its path, someone gutted the interior so the only piece left is the package shelf. What is left of that is faded to a dirty brown/grey. I noticed that you said that you were making patterns. Is there a possibility that you still have them and if so would you share? What did you use for foam in the seats?

Thanks,

Kent

Tom,

Art and I will eventually be getting to the interior or #92. Would you share the pictures you have? Our interior is completely gone...

Hello there Kent,

yes - I'll have to locate them on an old hard drive somewhere (which may take some time). Then I'll upload them to WeTransfer if that sounds OK to you and send you the link. I wonder whether chassis #93 survived and if so where she is now?!

Tom

Tom,

That would be great!! Pictures are wonderful! I suspect that upholstery might become a project next winter when the snow is flying!

One wonders where all of the Peerless are. I think Nigel is keeping track of the ones on this forum, but there must be more hiding out there somewhere. Art and I looked at one in the back of a semi-trailer that was in Wisconsin! I am not certain where that one went after we stopped bidding... The last one that we looked at before buying #92 was being rebuilt in New York. I am pretty certain the owner is on this forum...

Thanks again,

Kent
