numbers?

Which number are you all using?

Title or chassis?

I have a title number, a chassis number and an interior number, all different.

My headliner is still intact so I can't tell what the number is over it.

Rich's question is a good one.  I use the VIN title number or car number as stamped on the aluminum plate and fastened to the inner fender.

I define the chassis number as the small tag that is welded to the lower right front corner of the frame.  On car #213, I think it is 198.  It doesn't match and I don't think it ever was intended to align with the car number.  As far as I could tell, I was the first person to separate the chassis from the body, so I have every reason to believe it was built this way.  In my case, they probably just picked a rusting chassis from the back lot before starting the build.

On the Warwick, they drilled a hole in the chassis tag to mount the horn, so it obviously wasn't too significant.

Where is the interior number?

Dean

the VIN number (or as we call it over here) the commission number starts GT2/00.

the chassis number, rightly mentioned by Dean was a tag welded on. as far as we were told by ex-employees etc this was purely for the chassis manufacture (who was on the same Slough ind site) to keep tabs on what they had made (see what I did there)

the body moulding companies seem to have daubed, usually in black paint and brush, the number for the shell on the inner face of the roof, base of the seats and inside the door skins.

of course these never really matched up in such a hand to mouth production run, hence the difference with most cars.

My body (interior) number is 203.
It is painted on the backside of both the inner door panels on each door.
Probably on the inside of the rest of the interior panels as well, but I haven't taken more apart.
Had to get those frozen window operators out to get them working.
