Doors

I am at the point of trying to understand door adjustment on the Peerless.

Not so easy to see what is going on down along side of engine bay.  It looks like there is what should be a separate metal plate and the hinge arms are part of this.  This is compressed to another metal plate by ten bolts and that other metal plate is part of the frame.  One should be able to totally loosen the first plate and get shims behind it or even washers between it and the frame plate?  This seem right?  If so, my problem is going to be that it looks like repairs fiberglassed in the lower part of non frame plate.  This may be why they invented Dremel tools.
