Diff cover vent?

Have the Diff out of #220 to replace the seals. There is a crude vent tube brazed on to the diff cover. Is this stock or a modification? It does not look to be very effective. The tube is broken and I'm thinking of just replacing it with a plate. Your thoughts?

I've got one of those too so at a guess, I'd say it was stock. I had the diff re-built with new seals a couple of years ago by a reputable engineer shop that specialise in performance and race cars. They didn't have any adverse comments to make about it so it was left as was.

If it looks like this one, I suspect it is indeed stock...

I suspect that there's a prize for anyone that can remove a Peerless diff from the car without breaking this vent pipe.

Thanks all. That is the same tube/vent. I'll probably keep it and do a strengthening outer sleeve as part of the repair.

Very grateful for the fast reply.

On my car i suspect that it was broken due too contact with the DeDion tube.

When the suspension was fully unloaded there was very little play between these two.
