bonnet hinges Phase I and headlamp rims

Hi

anyone out there who can tell me where the bonnet hinges on my phase I Peerless GT from 1958 would have come from? Mine are both crap cry

In addition, I'm looking for a set of headlamp rims - they went missing on my car and it looks somewhat sorry without them.

Markus - congratulations on getting #155. I live very close to K&P and saw the car when in Edward's care. It's lovely and I know he was very attached to it.

Hi Markus,

in answer to your email and post, hinges are Healey 1006 boot hinges and the rims, well I have non in stock but if I can get enough interest I will look at re-commisioning a batch?

I'd love to have a set! Even a pair of knackered ones that can be restored would look

fantastic under the christmas tree. . . .

Hi Dave

it is 166, not 55 and sadly, there is absolutely no history present about the car. Do you know more?

Hi Nigel

these are about the only ones I didn't check . . . . I'm glad they're not Standard Vanguard. I restored a TR4 for a customer some years ago and to make it an exact

copy of the factory race cars from back then, we needed these to give the aluminium boot lid more support as they are almost two times as long as the originals. We

ended up having them cast and chromed for around 2000 a pair! Picking a pair of Healey bood hinges from stock will be a lot easier I guess smile

Sorry - i quoted the number from memory. Nevertheless I have seen the car, sat in it, heard it run etc. I don't know much about it's history, but can compare it's setup to mine (118) pretty much. Last time i saw it, Edward had removed the harness and mount from the interior, and it looked a lot better for it

I bought the last set of the last batch back in 2003.

Still new and unused as my car is not ready yet.

Back then i paid 80 pound (!) a pair, which was around 125 dollar then.

Not cheap, but they're hen's teeth.

I could make up some tooling as i have two perfect templates biggrin.

Producing a batch would also be possible if there's enough interest.

I have no clue about prices yet though, but i'm afraid they won't be bargains.

I'm looking for hens teeth so I will have to pay accordingly . . . .

There's a chap on Ebay who seems to produce such things (classicxcarxspares) !

I've already sent him a message to ask for possibilities a couple of days ago - no reply so far.

I'd be more than happy to step in for a pair if you can get them remade.

Markus

Mike in Scotland here. I'd also be interested in a new set of headlamp rims provided they're not stupid expensive.

Count me in for a set as well. Maybe if we can get a dozen pair price will come down.

The ones i bought are made of solid brass by the method called "metal spinning".

These are spun to a round shape first, around a mold that first has to be made up from a template.

Then the top-end of the ring is hammered and stretched to have the hump on the ring.

After that the stretched area has to be filed and sanded to become smooth.

Then it has to be polished to a real high shine before putting on a layer of Copper,

then Nickel and finally Chrome.

You can imagine these rings don't come cheap as they need a lot of time put in per ring.

The alternative would be to make these rings from Stainless Steel, but that material is not

really suitable for spinning because its much harder, and tougher.

No need for Chroming then, only polishing.

The chap I mentioned from Ebay has come back with the following:
"I will get a quote. Do you have a good sample? Estimation £50-£80 per rim for 10 pairs presuming they are made from cast metal and not pressed."

Guess that's not what we want?!?

Anyone know who produced the last lot through the TR Register? Never seen a pair but can't imagine they're cast.

well this thread has wobbled along since last I looked!

Alan and I were the instegators of the last batch....1993ish? oooh man time flys and al that stuff!...anywho, I have been back to the guy about a year ago to see about another batch.

he quoted somewhere in the region of £250-300 a pair this time!

i have another guy measuring these up and getting his head around the tooling for the peak. will report back when/if we get a reply.
