Reversing light switch

Have been sorting my new bespoke Autosparks loom in my Phase 1 but can't for the life of me remember where the reverse light switch goes or what it should look like. The old loom which came with the car (already removed) has an odd squarish switch fed by two wires (same colours as the reverse light switch according to the original diagram I have)  but where does it go?

I'm presuming (on a Peerless that's dangerous) that both switches on the gearbox are for the 2,3,4 overdrive gears as neither appeared to do anything when reverse was selected.

Help please.

All the best,

Gary

Hello there Gary,

I'm going to try to upload two images I took tonight of my reversing light switch....hope it's the same as yours and it all makes sense!

Spring that actuates the switch.

Switch at the rear of the transmission cover.

(Many thanks to Nigel and Adam for the instructional post on how to achieve these wonderous image uploads!).

Let me know if you require any further details or images.

BTW what's the state of play on the front & rear screens?  I'm still up for a heated pair if anything should transpire!

Take care,

              Tom

Hello Tom,

brilliant. That's exactly the components I have although the spring is missing from the wire on mine. Much appreciated.

In answer to the screens question YES. I need to visit the company now involved and get them to commit to prices for us. They will ship worldwide. I'm hopeful prices will be similar to those quoted previously.

All the best,

Gary

Gary,

glad the pictures solved the mystery!  Great to hear that the screens are still in train!

Do you by any chance have any details of the correct ashtrays?  I believe the cars were fitted with one at the front (ahead of the gear lever - you can see four holes on the picture of my transmission cover) and one at the rear ahead of the rear seats on the prop-shaft cover.  Neither came with my car unfortunately...any pictures and details of manufacturer(s) would be most helpful in trying to locate the correct items!

Also do you have any idea of the origin of the interior light fitting?  The chrome is in a bad way on mine and if they are available, a NOS replacement might be the easiest way to go.  The only details I can find on mine are a square mark with a "W" above an "A" on the left and a "B" on the right and "Birmingham" beneath the square...does that ring any bells?

This is what I have - I'm pretty sure it's the original fitting for my car - I'm almost certain I've seen the same unit in a picture of another car recently but I can't locate it just now!

Take care,

              Tom

Hello Tom,

a couple of years back, I asked CM readers to identifty the light. I had a good response as it was fitted to a number of vehicles from the era. One kind reader sent me two in the post, so I may have one for you I recall they were in good condition. I understand there are two versions of the lamp, one with a switch, one without. I'll take a look at mine in storage and get back to you.

If you view the pictures of chassis 166 at this site,

http://kastnerandpartnersgarage.com/inventory.php (scroll down to the Phase 1)

there are great pics of the interior, including a shot showing the front ashtray. If you still need pics, I'm sure Alan House's Warwick has the same ashtray and I can dig out pics from our feature photoshoot on his car from a few years back.

All the best,

Gary

Sounds great if you might have one you can spare Gary - many thanks.  Good to hear that they're not another of Frank's "manufactured from 'unobtanium'" items!

I don't think that chassis #166 (the K&P) car has its ashtrays anymore.  I think you're probably referring to chassis #198 (the red one that went through eBay recently in Canada)?  Chassis #18 (the green one with the "just south of patina" interior) had a rear ashtray which looked very neat and appropriate....Peeless Motors seemed to have a knack of making good choices for the fittings of their cars.

Should you happen upon either of the correct ashtrays on your travels (autojumbles etc.), I'm keen to acquire a pair!

Many thanks,

                   Tom
