Looking for some help on caliper compatibility. please..
Moss have replacement calipers listed for a TR3B (TCF), and from everything i can see, these are the correct replacement for what is on the Peerless. http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=75733
Can anyone confirm that this is correct? I haven't yet got the car, but want to have the things I know I intend to change in-hand in preparation.
More generally, what is the TR3 equivalent for the Peerless? I keep seeing codes like "TR2-3 to TS13045" but not sure what is the correct range to predict what will fit.
no these are the wrong calipers. these are later units fitted to all late 3's AKA tr3b to tr6. (altho I have these on mine!!!)
you need the what we call the "boat" type calipers for originality. (sorry to late and tired to sort out codes but found this visual indecation for you)
I found that looking for TR3A parts is the closest for my car. Engine specs line up with the early high port TR3A head, yet carbs cross reference to a slightly later TR3A (AUC 878).
The calipers are definately the early TR3A (moss ref TR3 from TS13046, TR3A to TS56376) with the external cross over pipe.
I used Apple Hydraulics to rebuild/exchange my capliers. They had a set on the shelf ready to ship. Reasonable prices and fast turn around.
It is a good thing they don't charge by the size or weight. These are some the biggest and heaviest calipers I have ever seen.
I called Apple Hydraulics, and they have cores that will be ready in a few days. They confirmed that they are the same as you received, Dean, so assuming everything is standard, I should be fine.
BTW, is the clutch hydraulic, or cable? Sorry if it's a stupid q. and if hydraulic, is the master combined with the brakes, or separate?
Hydraulic. Separate master cylinders, one reservoir. I would suggest that you contact Moss: (just for the parts catalogue!)
http://www.mossmotors.com/AboutMoss/ContactUs.aspx and request a parts catalogue. If its anything like the ones we have over here (which it must be?) its a great source of info with original Standard Triumph exploded drawings etc.
Also get yourself a good quality TR2-3 workshop manual. This will give a lot of back up info...for instance you need to make sure you have the correct slackness on your clutch slave cylinder pushrod so as not to wear out your thrust bearing etc.
Oh and you may find that if you cross ref some parts( when you know what they look like!) you will get them cheaper. For instance:
