I am in the process of purchasing a Peerless GT. I have seen and driven #172 currently for sale in Arizona. Briefly, it is scarlet red with a "beige" or "natural interior and carpets. The current seller is a dealer - Brighton MotorSports and seem to be asking a premium price for this particular car. They recently sold 2 others, so they have some experience with this rare make. This seems to be the best of the group.
My question to the forum is, "do you know any of the history of this car? Is there something unique that I am unaware of that would extract a premium price?" The car look magnificent, starts up nicely, runs and stops well, etc. The only flaw I could find on my first examination was a sluggish oil pressure gauge (although 55 lbs pressure with air temperature of over 105 deg F. When the engine was stopped, there was a slight bit of oil from the rear main area after about 10 min, but that was all. The restores quoted that the car was freshly painted, original interior but new carpets. The engine was opens with rod and crank bearing replaced, seals and new valve seats. The engine has a bit more chrome plating than I expected, but they said that was the state of the car they received.
If you have any information regarding #172, it would be kindly appreciated. I will be doing another inspection this weekend, another drive and perhaps some negotiating.
Hi Ben, sorry for not getting back to you sooner I have the car on the records with 2 previous owners and looks like the latter was doing some resto work. I have seen pics of this car as it has been around on the net for a while. i have it priced last at $38000. looks to high to me but i'm not there! i dont think the interior is the correct colour, phase 1 should be grey. didnt have a grill as standard just a "P" bar across the appature. the trunk (see how i slipped into the lingo there?)...(boot) was never trimmed out. Oil from the engine huh, that was standard! oil pressure was oppitional, yours sounds ok. good luck with the haggling and if we can be of any help when/if you buy then get back on the forum
Thanks for that information. It is a bit high priced considering the inccorect interior/boot trim. They seem to "think" that what they have is correct. In researching, I did find mention of the grey interior with only black carpet. If the boot was not trimmed, what would be considered proper in this case? I'll keep you all posted as to my progress. Part of this deal is that they will take 2 Frogeye Sprites in partial payment.
the Phase 1 sales brochure has a few good shots of the interior of the car (in b/w of course). I scanned my copy recently and will happily send you a copy - my email address is my name at the top of this post (no spaces) @btinternet.com - there's even a picture of the boot interior!
Good luck with your negotiations! Look forward to hearing you've been successful!
