Wow, making progress on the Peerless? Is that allowed?
Because the car has been in a permanent state of unfinish, I thought I'd spend some time over the weekend making it look a bit more presentable. Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present..... some work!
First job was to fit the filler cap - a 2 person job because you need to be inside the boot and outside the car at the same time. To get around this I had to take off the filler neck from the tank then I could at least hold it in the correct place and tighten it up. Works well, looks good, I feel better already.
I then tried the back bumpers for fit and wired up the number plate light. It's a Warwick bootlid but I think it looks good. I'd already done the work on the light last summer, taking it apart and cleaning all the contacts. As a result it all shines nicely.
While around the back I made up some gaskets for the tail lights. Just to show off, you understand.
To the front. The front lights were working and there's a sidelight in there so I didn't need to repair the twin filament indicators. I got some new indicators last year so it was fairly easy to fit them and wire them up - I did most of the work last summer but when the steering column had to come out again I had to disconnect it all. I've got a local earth point on the front end of the chassis so that's where all the lights earth, it all seems to work well because the indicators all flash at a healthy speed.
Bumpers on, because I think they look nice.
Peerless grille fitted, because it gives the car some class. And it gets it off the shelf of parts in the garage....
Washer jets fitted, fitting the washer bottle and pump took a while last year but fitting the jets was fairly easy. They're made for 1mm steel, not 5mm GRP so pushing them down far enough was a challenge, but they're in now. Wiper arms on, if only to get rid of the memory of rebuilding the wheelboxes and getting it all fitted through the dashboard
I love this car Gareth, it starts off a Phase 1 Peerless, and ends up a Warwick.
Just a thought, is the shell reinforced for the hinges under the parcel shelf. The Peerless stiffening plate is quite narrow, thankfully this one doesn't rust as bad as the others.
And wot's this about selling! Nobody ever sells a Peerless (well, hardly ever)
wow she is looking good! if you want to sell please inform me. i am from germany and saw a peerless a lot of years befor on a interrailtrip through britain - i was fascinated! i have learned choachbuilder and now i am finishing my studies for metallteacher - we have another theachingsystem by the way. my experiences with fiberglass are not sooo much but i have no fear about it. my fears are more in tuev- german mot. of course i can understand if you don`t want to sell. but if (for more or less an british not american price), please contact me : ulenspiegle (at) web.de
and i feel sorry for my rusty english, but its better than a translationmaschin

Yes, but who else would know the difference! I'm relying on you to not mention it at the Pebble Beach concours, Frank...
I don't know if there's any extra reinforcing done, the bonnet has more because it doesn't have external hinges.

bye, Till
I'll send you an e-mail tomorrow with some pictures. I don't have to sell right now, but with my work situation it might be more sensible.
did you got my email with the questions? most important thing for me would any provement that the car (no.37) was already registrated in past. the german tuev..... it`s a simple thing: no provement, no classic car, no german registration ever! - and this have nothing to do with stolen cars or something like that. i would be happy about an answer from you.
