As a recent owner of Nr. 53 - Phase 1, I am thinking of dressing up her eyes Pininfarina style similar to the Phase 2's. My head lights are set in and I am trying to achieve the look as in the picture attached (of the later car).
I am sure that there isn't a simple way of achieving this look but any ideas would be appreciated. In the back of my mind I thought I read somewhere that some 7" Mini chrome headlight rims and a bit of fiberglass hacking would do the job.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks
Gregor

if you are hell bent on customising the headlights, it might be wiser to mount the headlamp backing shells on a filler block, pushing them out far enough to mount Mini-style headlamp rims. That way you avoid hacking up a Phase 1 front end unnecessarily.
Alternatively, try focusing on the Phase 1 style for a bit longer and learn to love their (here comes the bone of contention) better , 'got it right first time' styling.
Step away from the cauldron stirring stick Mr Stretton...
I know that it's very difficult to resist the urge to "improve" the car, but plastic surgery does not improve a Peerless.
If you were to look along the row of our cars at the Malvern show you'd struggle to find two the same, and it's the subject of lively discussion about what is "original" and what changes compromise the essence of the car. Generally it's just good natured banter, but the one point on which we all agree is that irreversible modification of bodywork is a step too far.
So it's supposed to have sticky out headlights, and curious little fins. That's why you bought one, wasn't it?
Hi Gregor, forgot to mention, you have the wrong headlamp surrounds on your car anyway. what you have is a simple convertion that was do when the origianl rims fell off we did get some rims remade but i think the TR Register (who very kindly set up the tooling and cash) have sold out now. perhaps you/we could get another batch made? anyway have a look on the gallery page at phase 1 cars. the factory rims where slightly peaked and flat faced...yea a bugger to make
I remember those chrome rims from the car back in 1960/61. The top peak of the rims maintained the line of the top of the fenders which are also somewhat peaked at the top. I may be silly, but to me they make a significant difference in the looks of the cars. According to the TR Register back in 2010 the last batch they had made ran about 240 Pounds (my Texas keyboard doesn't have one a those pound sterling symbol things). I am very interested in finding a pair or participating in a new batch.
I am wondering if I can find something close to the appearance of the headlight rims from an old American car. Maybe something I can modify and rechrome? Can someone post a good closeup picture of a rim and also give the inside and outside diameter.
I have a new plan. I found some flat round american truck rims that would work if I add the peak at the top. Maybe braze in the peak? Can someone post a scale outline of the original rim I could use as a template? Also, how deep are the original rims?
