New Phase 1 'P' grilles!!!!!!!!!

I've found a company willing to make these for us in marine grade LM6 aluminium.  They could even do them in brass, if you wanted to chrome your grille.
I have a resin dummy of the phase 1 grille which may or may not be a factory item so expect the casting quality to be good.

I don't know about cost yet but an initial headcount will get us started.

Let me know ASAP

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Dean,
thanks for taking the time to do something for the good of all!smile
I have looked into/been part of this process before over the years, the problem lies in the shape. it is not flat. if you were to lay it on the bench face down the centre circle will sit flat and the long extended "arms" curve upwards.
this causes a great deal of trouble when trying to cast.
if your guy is confident then OK, BUT should you really be using a GRP copy as a master? I have seen these before (as they are the only "cheap" way to copy a grill badge) again over the years.no
should'nt you really start with a genuine item?smile

Hello Nigel,

your reply has confused me (not difficult I know).
I'm aware of the curvature. The dummy I have was given to me by Alan House. It is a very good starting point.
I brought it to Malvern a couple of years back you may recall (okay, you probably don't, it was a late night!)

Alternatively, I'm happy to use an original if someone is willing to lend one.
The company prepared to make it also make, amongst other things, alloy cylinder heads, so I reckon they'll be good enough for the task.

Hi Celia, that's great news. Will call you.

Update

Quote from my email correspondence:
"To avoid excessive costs we can work from an original and make
allowances for contraction.
I am assuming you will want the part in aluminium and have it polished, the
other ( more expensive ) option is to cast in bronze and chrome plate.

Assuming we go the aluminium route we would estimate the cost for the
raw casting at £130.00ea. polishing would be an extra charge."

Let me know numbers.

I have a preliminary meeting this Thursday with the company.
I intend to ask about casting the round Peerless badge too. I have an old one I'll take with me.

Does anyone want me to ask about any other Peerless bits whilst I'm there? Those Ph1 door handle end retainer sockets things for example?

Thanks,
Gary

go go gary!biggrin
thanks for the input and i guess £130 is not unreasonable as it is a great feature of the car.wink
door handle retaining stops are well worth sorting,as would be the complete handle.
I did try years ago to get the Mayflower, standard, razor edge clubs etc to jump in but they all said that "they" were all right on their own! but I would think that they maybe struggling now so that could open up a bigger market for your supplier.

Hey,
that´s great news!!!biggrin.gif
If you starting reproduction the Phase 1 "P" grille, i will buy one in alumium definitly.
130,00 would be ok, polishing is a matter of costs.
I own #218, it´s a Phase 1 from 1958 and i bought it 13 years ago from a guy in California.
The car is still a restoration project but i´m in the hope starting with it next year!

Please keep me informed!

kind regards
Thomas

Now that the estimate is firm, I wanted to reconfirm that I am still interested.

Please do count me in.

I would also be interested in the door handles should that come to pass.

Hi Gary/Nigel,

I can't afford one but I'll have one anyway as long as they are good copies with no pits!

Just polished aluminium for me, I'm not fancy enough for chrome...
Email me with payment details if you need cash ASAP
Jon Nolan

I did have the broken one from VXN but Dad lent it to Dudley Thompson in the 1970s to get new ones cast and he gave it to Ken and I haven't seen it since!
I'm sure I'll get it back when I get the Le Mans Car back ;0)

Either that or I'll just get thrashed for being cheeky.

Jon,

we've done the hard bit, all you need to do now is speak with Patrick at New Pro to place your order/spend your money.

All the best,

Gary
