handbrake cables

oh yes this one again.biggrin
I have had a guy asking for a Handbrake cable for a Warwick, I know they have the umbrella type handle but i seem to think they are the same underneath?

Oh and Nick can you get in touch...have you still got any in stock?

Steady Nigel, I think Warwick cables are different.

The ones I have for mine are in two bits.

Cables to both drums are in a single run which loops around the end of a flat lever bolted to the diff carrier.  There's a seperate cable from the lever back to the umbrella under the dash.  Looks like it was to give a bit of extra ...umph, but not that successful.

Hi Nigel, Hi Frank,

Haven't been on the Forum for a while (sorry) but I do still have Peerless handbrake cables (about 5 sets if I recall...). Prices are on the other thread - I'll look and post them here in a mo.

I'd be very surprised if they fit a Warwick, since they only come as far forward as the base of the Peerless lever, so there would need to be another mechanism/cable to reach the dreaded umbrella handle. Ian and Celia - can you confirm or deny?

If anyone wants a set, please don't hesitate (that was a big investment for me you know...smile.gif)

Cheers,
Nick

The handbrake assembly I pulled off my Warwick (and I have every reason to believe it's the original fitting) has a "lever" arrangement, about 8" long, that pivots on a bolt to the triangular diff carrier.
The handbrake cable goes from one rear wheel, down to the pivot, round a bolt with an ali pulley on it, and back to the other wheel, in one continuous sweep.  A separate cable goes from further up the lever up to the umbrella thingy on the dash.
This looks like this was intended to provide some extra leverage to make the handbrake work better.  It doesn't look very smart, and hangs so low it's liable to get wiped off by a passing road hump.
It wouldn't be very difficult to shorten Peerless cables to do the job, although you'd have to apply a bit of thought to the adjustment arrangements on the individual cables, because the ali pulley normally does the compensation, before it corrodes and seizes solid.  The cable back to the dash would be another problem, sorry I can't be so helpful on that because my umbrella is missing.
If anyone is really interested I'll drag the bits out of the "waiting to be sorted" box and take some pictures.
