I had a problem with my indicators last week which I seem to have solved but not before I bought a new flasher unit off my local motor factors and one from DMG. There was a lot of head scratching but we found
the the fault (which was down to me in the first place!) and all works well now.
My problem is, as we struggled to find a solution to the problem and kept changing flasher unit (which only increased the problem I now know) I have come to realise that the flasher unit on my car
is the only one I have that works. If I change back over to either of the "new ones" I get either no flashing at all or a dash board indication but no illumination outside.
My worry is that if this flasher unit does pack in I don't have a back up plan.
The car is converted to Neg earth and runs an alternator.
The flasher unit from the motor factors said it was positive earth only...bu then it doesn't earth on the casing?
the DMG flasher unit "I was told" is non polarity sensitive sir"?
I had a very similar problem on my Se5 a many years ago. When the original flasher unit failed, all replacements either didn't work or worked badly and not for very long. After going through 4 or 5 different units, I changed to an electronic unit. Problem solved!
It has enough switching capacity to use on Hazard flashers as well.

The electronics draws current when not flashing so it needs to be wired from the IGN side of the fuse or the battery will flatten overnight. The original unit only draws current when flashing.
