Peerless GT or Warwick Gt wanted.

I've been a lurker in here for a long time but just registered to tell my tale.

First I have to start with the back story.

Back in the mid seventies I was about 11 my mom was the secretary of the Coastal Bend Sports Car Car which was the SCCA affiliate in Corpus Christi Tx. My dad had just died in a scuba diving accident and my mom was left to fend for herself.  Long story short there was a older man in the club named Lloyd Fitzgerald who was a little sweet on my mom and she used to go by his place in downtown Corpus for him to show her how to work on her cars.

It was a converted 4 story mission and he lived on the bottom two floors. The inside was converted to living/workshop with a machine shop and several cars and motorcycles on the bottom floor and rows of parts shelving on the second floor. I used to love to go with my mom and explore it all while she and Fitz we working on her road going sprite or her Bugeye racecar. Fitz had been a BMC factory crew chief back in the sixties and his love of all things British was apparent in his collection. His pride and joy that was in his living room was a silver 57(?) Peerless Gt with a period supercharger that he raced back in the late fifties early sixties. It had been sitting for years and didn't run but I spent hours sitting in it making engine sounds and imagining myself driving it. I used to tell him that since he had no other that he had to leave it to me in his will.

Flash forward 40 years to today and my mom has been gone for more than 20 years yet her and my dad have passed on to me the British car disease. I have a bugeye that has been in my family since the mid seventies and even my wife is English. I have always wanted a Peerless GT of my own and now that I'm retired and am able financially to afford to buy and restore one, I can't seem to find one. Every time I do it's gone before I can do anything. I even called on the BHCC one and it was gone within a few days.

So so that's my long winded story and if anyone is thinking of selling theirs or know of one for sale and wants it to go to someone who will appreciate it, care for it, and drive it like it was designed to be driven please contact me at bigtoe32067@yahoo.com.

My name is Tony.

Hi Tony,

What a great story, really wish you could have gotten your hands on Fitz's car! I'm thinking you don't have any photos of it? but I guess you can at least remember the colour inside and out?

If you can email me with your details of where you are etc I will add you to the list of people I have that are looking for a car. It is very helpful that you are willing to take on a resto as most

people these days just want a turn key car.

Great story, Tony. Plus a supercharger, wow, now that I'd like to see.

I wish you the best of luck finding a suitable car and welcoming you to our crazy but very friendly community.

All the best,

Gary

I just came across and purchased a Rover 3.5L V8 and transmission so even a rolling chassis would be good that would give me the ability to turn it into a Peerless GT V8 or a Warwick 350GT tribute

I know there are people out there who have or know of someone who has a LHD Peerless or Wawrick GT or even a Gordon-Keeble (but preferably a Peerless GT) that has some mechanical or body work needs and the price reflects this.

Gary's white one that he is offering on here is beautiful but unfortunately is out of my price range and even more so once shipping to this side of the pond is factored in and on top of that its RHD which is all too bad for me because the car is beautiful and I would consider myself or whoever who buys it to be very lucky to be able to own it.

I wish I could have been able to buy the BHCC car but it was sold the first day it went up on the site.

Anyways I will keep on looking and I know somebody on here will hear of something or know someone who is ready to pass one on to a new caretaker who will restore it or just care for it the way they always intended to.

I don't know what it is about the Peerless GT that draws me to it like it does though I suppose you all understand since all of you seem to have the same affinity for them.

Here is a little current background about me.

I have 12 cars now ranging from a 59 Bugeye that I am nearing the end of a multi year restoration, a 74 Porsche 914 that I'm putting a 3.0L 911 engine in, a 911RS clone, a 996 GT3 clone, a Ferrari 308GTSi QV, several BMWs, my daily is a Modified Cayenne Turbo, my wife's InfinitI QX80, Dodge Journey for my kids, and a Ford F150 farm truck and they are all registered and insured and can be jumped in and driven except the Bugeye and shortly it will be ready too.

The Peerless is the one I fall asleep at night thinking about and can't stop thinking about during the day.

I'm building a 4,000 sqft shop on my property behind my house that should finally be finished within the next few weeks.  I'm putting in a paint booth, a 4 post lift, and a 2 post lift along with a small man cave area.  It will be heated and air conditioned to enable me to work comfortably in it year round during our 100+ degree heat plus provide climate controlled storage for all my cars, tractors, golf carts, and Polaris RZRS for my kids thataway my wife can reclaim the 3 car garage and the covered parking for her car and her golf cart.

I retired a few years ago from the auto repair business and can't really travel like I would like to and had planned to due to some medical issues so this should give me something to do with my time at my own pace and I'd love to be able to restore a Peerless GT and I'll have all the equipment necessary to do so myself.

Thanks for for taking the time to read all of this and hopefully I'll be able to join the Peerless GT owners club and upgrade from the Peerless GT lurkers club.

Tony

Tony converting a Peerless/Warwick to a Rover V8 is an extensive task. The frames had substantially different from the firewall forward. Not only in the form of relocated/resized tubes but the entire front cross member is different. In addition the factory had to add a hood scoop to clear the air cleaner/generator on the Rover engine and many small differences like location of steering column, dash, etc.

There are also not many V8 cars around to gather information from. This comes from my extensive research on the V8 cars over the past two years as I recently acquired what I feel is the last Warwick V8 made. This car is the one reported to be made in Ireland by the Peerless Dublin Company after Warwick failed. I have attached photos of the car (black & white) as it sat in front of the Dublin plant and (color) as it sits in my garage today.

Best of luck - Jim Bolinger (Canton, OH)

I'll give you a call Keith to talk about your car.
Oddbrit, it sounds like it may be more work than I can do and if that's the case then I'll just have to settle for a original engine setup with a supercharger which wouldn't disappoint me in the least.
Thanks for your input and you are very lucky to have an original v8 model. I wish I could afford one. The period pics you posted show how beautiful the lines are and to have the added power of of the v8 completes the package for me.
Good luck with yours and I'd love to see it when it's complete.
Thanks
Tony

Still on the hunt. Prefer a project car because it's all I'll be able to afford.
Thanks

Hi Tony,

My name is Jan, based in Belgium in the Brussels area and also pretty new to the Peerless forum and community.
I am the guy that jumped on the BHCC car that was up for sale earlier this year, so sorry I was in a hurry!
It was just what I wanted (project car, LHD, matching engine, and series 2 look although it turned out the be a series 1 with some body changes) so I just went for it.
My plans are to turn it into a race/rally car, drastically improve power/weight ratio so the challenge of putting this particular one back to original condition did not apply to me.

I still am looking for a front seat however, so if anyone has a spare one, I would be very interested!

I do know about another project car for sale, about 30min away from me:

cardelange.be/racingbox2016/index.php/stocklist/26-peerless-gt-1959

I have no idea if they want to sell it as-is or they are aiming for a customer that will have restoration done by them.

It is in Europe of course so shipping costs are significant, but it is a LHD with some work carried out already - although not sure to which standard. I wonder if import duties apply if this car would have been bought in the US by these guys, as sometimes re-import can be done at lower of zero tariffs. If you want me to be your eyes, I would be happy to assist you.

Feel free to get in touch!

Best regards, Jan Verbreuken

Jan
I'm glad it went to someone like me who has been wanting one for a long time and who will restore it themselves and appreciates it for what it is.
The link for the one near you doesn't work but I'd still be interested even if I had to ship it if the price was right.
I still haven't found one and am still looking and would appreciate any help.

You can email me directly at bigtoe32067@yahoo.com

Thanks

Tony Moore
