rear axle bearings

in the process of reassembling my rear axle, after putting up with deteriorating bearing clearances for a while, with the accompanying lack of brake pedal. spent best part of 500 quid having driveshaftfs modified by Thurston Engineering of Ongar. after the usual superhuman struggle getting the hubs off the taper I redesigned the shafts a bit. having the taper milled off down to the minor diameter and lengthwise to the first bearing, stainless sleeves shrunk on to make the shaft straight right to the nut, a new keyway cut thru to the original shaft , hubs machined out to remove the taper, and be a straight push fit, new keys. an 88mm spacer on eack axle to space the taper roller bearings with a coulpe shims to set end float. , so on final reassembly with seals, grease etc, there will be zero end float with spacer between the bearings, and i can shim the hub out to line up the shoes. .. have just set up one side, , setting the end float at about 1and half thou. i can then fit the hub, and crank up the nut to some serious torque, . removing the hub for disassembly is a simple,, nut off, 3 claw peller , gentle pull off..

found 2 outer bearing tracks corroded, so spent forever trying to find bearing sets at a reasonable price, had ordewred a pair from kent bearings for 70 quid, then spotted this.:

stupid long copy and paste, but stateside supplier, wait and see if they come thru.
