Heyy just put pads n shoes on the car, and replaced one rear wheel cylinder and line, bought brake fluid, and can't get a pedal. after spending all afternoon at it , realised the fluid i bought is labelled synthetic. seems just about all brake fluid is now synthetic.. well if you, like me, still running mineral fluid, this is a total pain.
BUT , after some research. it is still mineral fluid, so it's ok. I panicked and thought that this was like the old'silicon' fluid. it's not. .. dot 3, 4 and 5.1 are all mineral, but dot 5 is silicon , and it's always purple.
in the meantime , I bought some LHM+ cos it's 'mineral' oil.... but it IS an oil and is not water miscible. damn , so now i have a brake system that's full of oil. ok fix: what makes oil water miscible? soap... so 3 jugs of strong Fairy liquid solution later , pumped thru, and rinsed with 4 jugs of fresh water, dry the reservoir, then rinsed thru with dot4 you can buy a gallon for £16 something and 2/or 3 flushes later... bingo.. super clean, didn't have to bleed it just pumped with the nipples out, (weather was warm) put them back. done.... pedal.. phew.. Regards Paul M

wow, I'd hate to see what ended up going down the drain at your place ....must have been like Deepwater Horizon out there! must say I went the silicon way as everything was new or cleaned and reassembled and I liked the idea that it doesn't absorb moisture and it doesn't strip paint!
a lot of people say "ahh you don't get a good enough peddle with that stuff" how do they know/how can you compare?. I've never driven the car on anything else and all the other old cars I've owned felt about the same as this one.
