Broadswords

Folks:

There was a discussion at the P&W social event about Warwick bonnet trim AKA "Broadswords".

I've got an original, and have contacted NewPro (the folks that reproduced the Peerless "P")
about re-casting it in aluminium, that will take a nice polish, and hopefully, you would be able to
tap enough of a thread into it to hold it on the bonnet.

NewPro's estimate comes in at £320 with polishing another £100.  You'd have to tap your own
locating holes as well.

They can also do it in Bronze at £470, if you wanted to get it plated.

So:  How much interest would there be at this price?

This doesn't mean that these items are "available to purchase" it was just an opening enquiry
and given the number of Warwicks in circulation I'm not expecting an avalanche of responses.

Frank from Felixstowe.

Well, given the number of Warwicks around, I wasn't expecting a rush.

I'll quietly let this one wither on the vine.  It was pretty expensive, because
at low volumes prices have to include tooling and admin costs. Making just one
then becomes totally uneconomic.

Now I will get on and repair mine so that the securing arrangements are adequate
probably by soft-soldering in retaining studs, and then plate the result.

However it does show that if you want something badly enough there are
still folks out there who can do it, for a price.

Good attempt Frank and sorry the uptake wasn't instant.

I could take a mold off it and produce in GRP? I have done some very successful items using aluminum/copper/brass filler powders in the resin. My own business cards for instance (brass and copper).

When popped from the mold they can be flatted back and then polished. This would be a cheaper option I'm sure, even from me!

Wasn't really expecting instant, but I'd said I'd follow up JN's comment.

Yes, of course you can borrow mine to copy.  Something in resin
would match the dynamics of the bonnet better than a stiff
ali casting, and be less likely to come adrift.  Don't want to post it
cos its over 1 Mtr so it'll be expensive, and irreplaceable.

PS My Warwick is going over to Ian & Celia's shop for paint shortly.
