Sooner or later i need to sort out the oil drips on the car. What's the collective experience? Does the engine and gearbox come out easily as one, or should i pull the 'box first?
Either way. Engine or gearbox out to start with, gearbox through the car, engine on hoist.
If you try to do both together....
The CofG of combined weight is too far back from the front of the car for a standard hoist with it's arm fully extended, and it's likely to tip. It doesn't even work with a Warwick, without a bonnet or radiator in the way.
And if you have a big enough hoist....
The gearbox drain plug and mount struggle to get over the chassis cross member.
I couldn't pull or put the combined engine/gearbox in the bare Peerless chassis. This was with the radiator out and a clear shot absent any body work. The only way I found it could be done was in two pieces. It seemed so close, yet the gearbox bellhousing fouls the forward firewall, and that was with the gas pedal linkage removed.
I'll be taking the Warwick transmission out shortly - through the interior.
