Haynes Guide to Used Sports Cars

I love reading old car books, the ones that tell you to avoid buying an XK140 because they can rust a bit.  Nowadays even a rusty chassis plate and nothing else is worth restoring....

Back in the early '60s, Haynes did a book featuring a few different sports cars, here's what they had to say about the Peerless and Warwick.  Nothing really new, but nice to read anyway!

Wahey! That's my car! XRO1. Fantastic.

Thank you very much Gareth. I'll have to track a copy of the book down now.

All the best,
Gary

Hello Gareth,

any chance of a pic of the cover of that book and its ISBN number if it has one please.

Much appreciated,
Gary

No chance of a front cover shot or ISBN because I packed and posted the book to my uncle last night....  A quick search shows the cover looking like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1964-Guide-to-Used-Sports-Cars---vol.1---J.H.-Haynes_W0QQitemZ250531276787QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20091116?IMSfp=TL091116197002r30576

I got it from ebay, there's a Volume 1 and Volume 2, Vol2 has the Peerless & Warwick in it, the covers are the same but one's printed in blue and the other in red.  I paid about £3 for each if I remember correctly.

Nice car!  Which chassis number is it?

Gareth

Thanks Gareth,

I've seen the blue book on ebay before, little knowing it had those photos.
It was red back then, it's in primer currently.

All the best
Gary

Hi
I have both volumes of this book. I am sure it is before before the ISBN system.  The pictures inside are all black and white by memory. I wont be able to look at the books until the weekend. If you need any info fro them let me know.

Hi Gary
I have looked in the the Blue part 2 book. It has two pictures of your car. Both black and white. It seems to be a dark colour car. It has steel wheels with chrome hub caps and chrome wheel embelishers.
I hope this is of help. Any think else you need let me know.
Regards

thanks Duncan.
Shame they're not colour photos but I'm being greedy. I'll have a chat with Haynes about the photos.

All the best Gary

Managed to find Vols 1 & 2 in black hardback from 1964 and '65.

A lovely addition to my car's history. Interesting to see the P grille had been ditched in favour of inset auxiliary lights.

Gary
