Windscreen help needed

I got the standard rubber screen seal from an auto jumble, fastfit came up to my workshop to fit the screen and said they had a better molding on their van and so they swapped theirs for mine.

They pointed out that the GRP lip on the body that the seal fits onto is thicker than steel and so this should be allowed for. Makes sense I guess. I didn’t have a sample of the original at the time...I now do and if you require a "slice" then I can post it to you.

In fact, I will send a slice to our beloved leader and he can scan it in and post it up.

R399 with the chrome strip worked for me. The special tool for fitting the chrome strip is dead useful as well.

Thanks Guys - the latest is that they can indeed get the screen from Uroglas in about 4-5 weeks (no surprise) but they are planning to re-use the old seal! To my knowledge it's 10 years old so I would have thought a new one was needed - any views?

It's a Larf innit....

Could this be because if they fit a new seal and it's wrong, then they are liable? If they can't identify a manufacturers reccomended replacement (hardly surprising) they'll use the one which they took out. If you provide the new rubber (ie take responsibility) then they'll probably be happy to use it.

The biggest problem you'll find is that the manufacturing tolerences on the hole it fits in are up to the usual Peerless quality standard, and the headlining tucks under the rubber, so you need about five arms and a reel of masking tape.
