RE:Warwick Wiring Loom

Something went fritz, here is what I actually typed.

Just spoke to Autosparks, I want a new loom. They have never heard of a Warwick but can supply a Peerless loom. Have they got the names mixed up or am I going mad?

RE: Wiring Loom

Hi Jonathan,

Autosparks obviously have bad memories ! I rang them (all be it probably a year or so ago at least) to let them know that what they were selling was a Warwick loom but calling it a Peerless loom. They did say that they would warn customers that it was not actually a Peerless loom, but I guess that would be very bad for business when you consider the production figures ! Frank Wright purchased one for his Peerless and gave it up as a bad job when he realised that he would have to make too many modifications to make it fit his car. I’m almost certain that Hugh James had Autosparks make one from scratch originally and that was for the Bolster Warwick 75 RBH (the one I owned a few years back). So my advice is to ask them for a Peerless Loom as it is most certainly of the Warwick variety ! I could ring them again but I doubt they will want to advertise the fact.

Good Luck, Jon

The Autosparks loom is really good quality, has proper period cotton braiding, and seems to be a very accurate copy of a Warwick loom.  After a lot of headscratching I sold it on (at a loss) to a warwick owner, who may get round to fitting it one of these days.  IMHO, as a Perless loom, it's a non-starter.

Sadly it has no provision for the Peerless left hand headlight, or the fan that's underneath it, cos the warwick fan is in the dash, and the front lights lights on a warwick are all fed from a common plug on the right hand side, by the steering box.  Also, Warwick instruments are in the centre, Peerless has them on the right of the dash (or left in Eric's DV's case).  And Warwick switches are different as well.  Shall I go on?.....

In fact making a harness fron scratch is easy-peasy, as long as you take your time, and use the correct colour (and size) wire.  It's also possible to add in some proper sized earth returns, and put in extra feeds for the Kenlowe fan, a manual fan override switch, and the electric washers.

I used soldered tags or bullets, according to fitment, rather than crimps, and wrapped it in the non-sticky binding tape.  The only gremlin in two years has been the Kenlowe override switch, (an aftermarket 25A item), which melted in the under-bonnet heat during the Le-Mans bash last year.

And I'm not knocking Autosparks, their service is good, they sold me all the individual wires, to my specification for colour and size, as well as the solder tags and insulating sleeves, and they keep some super period correct mounting clips as well.  Oh, and they also do the special-size 4-core that goes down inside the steering column.

Hello Everybody

Autosparks here.  We have just had a good chat with Frank Clayton who has kindly supplied us with an original Peerless Wiring Harness.  We are now aware of the differences between the Warwick and the Peerless and can supply both.  I note that some owners are fitting Alternators and would like to point out that we can also carry out any modifications that individuals require for their own cars as we build the harnesses.  This obviously makes the finished job much tidier.  We hope this clears up any doubts anyone may have who needs a Harness and would like to say that we are always 100% behind anything we sell, if we get something wrong, all we need is to be told about it.

Thank you - Roger

Great news, thanks Roger for the information. Oh and it's Peter Clayton not Frank.....just so you can get it right.

How much are these looms then

If only everyone was as helpful as Autosparks.

After all the advice, I ordered a Peerless wiring loom on September 14, for a Warwick,........obviously!

I just received a call from Autosparks to tell me it was ready for dispatch ...early! Now they are worried that they have made me the wrong one.

Did I really want a Peerless loom for a Peereless?

Or did I want a loom , previously known as Peereless, for a Warwick, if so they would have to make another loom, in the style of Peereless, for a Peerless and not for a Warwick.

Very clear to me. Whatever turns up and I am sure it will be a Peereless loom for a Warwick, it is early and cost £183.82 inc carriage.

Thanks Autosparks.

Now, anyone know where I can get a windscreen from an Austin A35 that is really for a Peereless and a Warwick?

Thanks to Peter C for helping Autosparks out.

Are we sure that the A35 windscreen is common?  If I remember rightly my old peanut had a flat screen, although it would have been about the same size.

Nigel, I am only getting this from my father, he is sure it is an Austin, he is fairly sure that it was not bespoke. Perhaps it is an Austin Powers! I wish we couild find out, it would save me some money and that is not a bad thing.

I used to have one of these back when I was young and single, and couldn't afford a TR3.  It went better with a 1098  engine and SU carb from a dead moggie 1000.

I have taken delivery of my PEERLESS Wiring Loom from Autosparks at a cost of £149 + VAT. The loom includes modifications such as electric temperature and windscreen washer feeds. It will not be fitted for a few months but in the meantime I can recommend the staff at Autosparks for their approachability and knowledge.
